AMARILLO, TEXAS -- The 17 annual event brought fun and competition to Amarillo, and serves a great purpose.
Thursday it may have looked like it was all about cowboy boots and cowboy hats, but the Working Ranch Cowboy Association had a greater vision in mind.
"We give money to our scholarship and crisis funds," said Randy Whipple WRCA Board of Directors. "We have lots of ranch kids in college that we're supporting to keep them there, so they can get back in the saddle with an education or do whatever they want to do when they grow up. We also have a crisis fund which is incredibly important because that crisis fund supports cowboys and their families in times of need."
The WRCA funds the Working Cowboy Ranch Foundation and makes this all possible.
As this rodeo benefits the WRCA, officials say they work to make sure Amarillo gets an experience they'll keep coming back for.
"The first event of the night is branch bronco riding, which is one of the most exciting thinks you'll ever see. The great Harry Bold, The Duke of the Shoots is out contractor with the horses. He's brought the biggest baddest horses in the country," said Whipple.
Near 300 vendors and cowboys from all across the United States have made their way to the championship rodeo, and officials say the only thing missing is you.
If you missed opening night, you have a few more chances; the rodeo will be here November 8-11.
Tickets start at $22 and you can get them at panhandletickets.com
