JUSTICE Secretary Chris Grayling is ready to stop lags suing over the ban on prisoner voting ? by stopping their legal aid.
He has told officials to look at scrapping the taxpayer-funded help for inmates trying to claim compo.
Mr Grayling yesterday told MPs he didn?t believe the ?legal aid system should be open to abuse for purposes it is not intended to serve?.
He spoke as he unveiled plans to pass a new law on prisoner voting.
It follows Euro judges in Strasbourg ruling that Britain?s ban is ?unlawful?.
JUSTICE Secretary Chris Grayling insists Parliament had the power to maintain a ban
The minister said MPs would get three options ? keep the status quo, give the vote to lags sentenced to less than six months, or to those jailed for less than four years.
He said: ?Ultimately this Parliament is sovereign, this Parliament can decide whether it will accept a ruling of the European Court ? of any sort ? or whether it won?t.?
He was backed by top Tory and Labour MPs.
Critics warned that the Government faces a monster compo bill if the ban stays.
